Why

Strawberries offer vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants with few calories. Their sugar can cause diarrhea in larger amounts, and whole berries can choke small dogs. Strawberry milk, jam and syrup-packed berries are loaded with sugar, and some products may contain xylitol.

How to give it / if eaten

Rinse well, remove the green tops and cut into small pieces. A piece or two for cats and small dogs, or one or two berries for large dogs, keeps treats under 10% of daily calories.

Watch for these signs

Too much can cause loose stool, diarrhea or vomiting. Rarely, allergy can cause itching or hives.
