Why
Instant noodle seasoning and spicy sauces are very high in salt and often contain onion and garlic powder, which can cause anemia. Capsaicin in chili strongly irritates the gut, causing vomiting and diarrhea, and fried noodles add fat that raises the risk of pancreatitis. For cats and small dogs, a few sips of broth can mean far too much sodium.
How to give it / if eaten
If your pet ate ramen or spicy food, note the amount and time and call your vet. For a large amount, a small dog or a cat, go to a vet or emergency clinic right away. Offer fresh water and don't induce vomiting at home without a vet's instruction.
Watch for these signs
Vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, lip-licking or pawing at the mouth and excessive drinking are common. Too much salt can cause tremors or seizures, and anemia signs such as pale gums may follow days later.
FAQ
Can I give just a few plain ramen noodles?
The noodles soak up the seasoned broth and are fried, so they're oily too. They're not a suitable treat.
Is one piece of tteokbokki rice cake okay?
It's coated in spicy sauce with garlic and green onion, and chewy rice cakes are a choking risk. If your pet ate one, watch for vomiting or diarrhea and call your vet if anything seems off.
